Tia Subramanian
Gender-Based Violence Program Director, Criterion Institute
Tia Subramanian specialises in translating intersectional gender analyses into investment tools and thinking. She has worked on a variety of gender issues on the programmatic and investing sides. She has shaped philanthropic strategies, produced thought leadership on translating intersectional gender analysis into investment approaches, and run nonprofit delivery of reproductive health care services. At Criterion, Tia’s work illuminates how gendered imbalances of power underlie gender-based violence and discrimination and why this is relevant to investors across asset classes and markets. She develops trainings and tools for investors of all types to incorporate gender equity and gender-based violence analyses into their work.
Tia is also a writer, editor, and communications specialist who believes that clear communications can break down sector and issue silos and strengthen collective approaches to progress. Her work has appeared in publications such as the Stanford Social Innovation Review and the Journal of Sustainable Finance & Investment. Outside of work, Tia is a sommelier who designs virtual and in-person wine education classes aimed at helping anyone, regardless of their knowledge or budget, connect to more wines they love. She lives in Washington, DC.
